- Specific topics of interest: The study of magnetic and electrical properties of ceramics with applications in electronic industry. The study of a few ferroelectric ceramic systems with diffuse phase transitions, including the preparation, their structural, microstructural and functional properties investigations. Modeling of the electrical properties by applying the FORC method transferred from magnetism in order to study hysteretic properties offerroelectric materials. Dr. Cristina Elena Ciomaga has 10 years of experience in investigating fundamental phenomena in multifunctional ceramic systems as: ferroelectrics, relaxors and multiferroics, in relationship with their microstructure and composition, particularly the study of electrical and magnetical properties of ceramics with relaxor properties: BaTiO3 –based and solid solutions and magnetoelectric materials with applications in electronics.I have obtained a Ph.D. in Physics in 2007 with thesis "Contributions to the study of ferroelectric relaxors" (SUMA CUM LAUDE), under the coordination of prof. A. Stancu, for which she was awaded with the Prize for the best PhD thesis in Physics in 2007 at the Univ. „Al.I. Cuza” Iasi. The specific research topics in which important contributionswere reported are: 1. Study of ferroelectric properties and polarization processes in various conditions. Modeling with the Jiles-Atherton and Landau theory that were made original contributions in determining the parameters obtained by fitting the experimental data with theoretical data from major hysteresis cycles (MHL) (P(E)), minor cycles and FORC diagram (First Order Reversal Curves) for different frequencies and amplitudes of applied field; 2. Theoretical description of ferroelectric phase transitions with modified Landau-Devonshire theory in order to explain the freezing process of local polarization in ferroelectric systems of relaxor type and the description of the local ordering degree; 3. Study of positive temperature coefficient of resistance (PTCR) using Heywang-Jonker model with Landau-Devonshire theory of ferroelectricity in order to described the ferroelectric-semiconductor properties of the n-doped BaTiO3 ceramics; 4. Implementation of FORC method (First Order Reversal Curves) to describe the local switching properties in case of the systems based on BT and its solid solutions Ba1-xSrxTiO3(BST) with various compositions; 5. Preparation and optimization of processing parameters in order to obtain ceramics with perovskite structure, homogeneous microstructures and high density as well as to perform the phase and micro/nanostructure analysis of nanopowders and the ceramics based on BT and its solid solutions Ba(Zr,Ti)O3. Description of the ferroelectric-relaxor behavior in BZT ceramics, considering the experimental and theoretical data (collaboration with IENI-CNR, Genoa, Italy); 6. Description of the ferroelectric properties and the dielectric degradation with Landau theory, method FORC: switching, dimensional effects, grain boundary effects, structural and fero-para phase transitions for systems as BZT (cooperation with ISTEC-CNR Faenza, Italy); 7. Multiferoic composite systems with magnetoelectric coupling. The research in this field started by studying the ME effect in the Pb(Fe2/3W1/3)O3-PbTiO3 system and with the study of magnetic properties of BaTiO3-(Ni,Zn)Fe2O4 di-phase system magneto-electric composite. Recently, it has started the systematic investigation of multiferoic composite systems based on Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 (pure and Nb-doped) and CoFe2O3 ferrite (collaboration with ISTEC, Faenza, Italy).
